Greetings Sir Knights,

By the time you receive this newsletter, the election of officers will have taken place. I would like to congratulate my predecessor for doing an excellent job as Eminent Commander this previous year. I am honored and humbled to have been elected to serve as your Eminent Commander. Also, we have several new officers in the line this year. All of the officers and I look forward to continuing the traditions and first class ritual work that our commandery is known for.

Furthermore, our drill team will be practicing on Mondays at 6 pm this summer. Hopefully the drill team will be participating in the Findlay Independence Day parade this July. They will also be participating in drill competitions at the Triennial of the Grand Encampment of the U.S. in Salt Lake City in July and the Annual Grand Conclave of the Ohio Grand Commandery this October.

Additionally, there will be a CTA meeting at Findlay, July 14th, time TBA. Our stated meetings will resume in September. The first meeting of the month will have a tureen dinner and a business meeting. The second meeting will have ritual work or an educational program. Please attend whether or not you have a uniform or a green jacket. The second meeting in June will be an open installation of officers.

In conclusion, the officers and I look forward to another successful Templar year.

Sir Knights,

As hard as it may seem, summer is over and your Commandery is ready to start another year.

All KYCH members remember that the fall meeting will be in our lodge September 9th . 2:30pm with dinner before hand at 1pm.

The drill team has been practicing every Monday during the summer in preparation for the drill competition at Grand Commandery October 7-8th . I’d like to see a good turnout of Findlay Sir Knights at the Grand session on October 7th.

Sir Knights, as I mentioned in the summer news, your Commandery meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday, with a family potluck dinner before the 1st meeting starting at 6:30pm. The meetings start at 7:30pm. All Sir Knights are encouraged to attend each and every meeting. Only the officers are the required to wear their uniforms at the 2nd monthly meeting. Some dates to remember for October thru December;
  • Meeting Dates: Oct 11th , Oct 25th ,Nov 8th , Nov 22rd (also Thanksgiving Eve), Dec 13th , & Dec 27th .
  • Practice dates for the Inspection February 10th will be announced later.
Sir Knights, the Inspection for Findlay Commandery is Saturday, February 10th and with your help it can again be the best for the inspection season. Please keep this date available and try to attend your inspection (with or without a uniform).

How much do you know about the Original Knights Templar? I discovered some interesting information in my own search for more light. First some background: the military brotherhood of the Knights Templar was founded in the aftermath of the first Crusade. Privileges for these first knights were granted by Pope Innocent the 2nd in 1139. Initially these knights were tasked to protect pilgrims on the road between the Port of Jaffa and the Holy City.

Do you know?
  • King Baldwin the 2nd granted some space be reserved for a head quarters for these knights. This space was on the site of the former Al-Aqsa mosque on Temple mount. This area was believed to be the site of what?
  • There were only 9 knights at the formation of the order and their resources were few. What emblem did these first knights adopt for the order that emphasizes their meager beginnings?
If you would like to know the answers to these questions, you will need to attend the fall meetings to find out. Or, if you like, you can help me do more research.

Please help your Commandery and get involved in an organization that has a very interesting past.
